We arrived at San Pedro last Sunday at around 1:00 p.m. and waited in a bunch of different lines before we got on the boat. That sucked, but when we got on and went to our room, it was so exciting. We opened the door and our room was all decorated, compliments of my dad and step-mom and there were chocolate covered strawberries waiting there too. We were pretty hungry, so we went to the buffet. Blech. Not good. I mean, I had a salad, which was fine...but Danny did not enjoy the selection of food at all. That was the first and last time we ate at the buffet. That night we went to our first dinner in the dining room and met our waiter, Vichai and our assistant waiter, Faustino. Vichai barely spoke a lick of english, but he was very nice. Our head-water, Marliza was awesome. She made our dining experience over the 7 days bearable.
Monday we were at sea. We wanted to lay out by the pool, but it was very cold and windy for most of the day. The weather cleared up a bit around 3:30 p.m., but we were getting ready for our first formal night, which was the Captain's Dinner, so we only spent about 45 minutes at the pool. The Captain's Dinner was nice. We didnt go to the reception beforehand though. After that, we went to see a show on the boat called Rhythm and Rhyme. It was people singing and dancing to Broadway showtunes. Pretty entertaining. Oh, did I mention that Danny won the Blackjack tournament?
Tuesday we arrived in Cabo San Lucas. The weather was gorgeous. A tad humid, but gorgeous. We took a cab to The Office, which is a bar/restaurant on the beach. To our dismay, it was not there. They were remodeling it, so it wont be open til next month. So we ate next door at Mango Deck. We sat and enjoyed looking at the bright blue ocean and ate some tacos. Then we decided to walk down the beach to Pueblo Bonito Rose, which is the resort where my grandparents own a timeshare. Once we got there, Danny wanted to lay by the pool, which is awesome. We went inside and asked the front desk clerk if it would be ok, so he gave us some pool towel cards and we were set. We layed out, drank some fruity drinks and got some sun. After that, we headed back to the boat.
Wednesday we hit Mazatlan. Now, I apologize if any of you like Mazatlan, but I dont care much for it. Its dirty and not my kind of place. Danny didnt care much for it either. Anyway, we paid a driver to take us on a tour of the city, along with a few other couples. We met a really nice couple from Ohio - Bob & Kathy. They were older, in their 60's, but so much fun to hang out with. We saw the sighs, and then our driver took us to this great restaurat that I ate at with my family a few years back called La Costa Marinera. The best shrimp ever! Then we went to Senor Frogs to check it out. After that, we went back to the boat.
On Thursday we got to Puerto Vallarta. We needed to be off of the ship at 7:15 so we could meet our group for the Dolphin Swim. The bus took us to the water park, where they had like 12 different water slides and the dolphin pool. We swam around with them, got a belly ride and a boogie push. So much fun. I loved every minute of it. As soon as Danny scans the pictures, I will post them. After we left the water park, we went back to the ship to change out of our wet bathing suits and got off the ship again. We looked around for an authentic mexican restaurant that wasnt full of tourists and we found one. It was called La Candora. Very good food. We had 2 drinks, 2 orders of carne asada and an order of beans and the whole meal was $13.00. Pretty good deal, eh? After we ate, we headed back to the ship and had a couple's hot stone massage in the spa. Wow...I loved that. It felt soooo good.
Friday was another day at sea. I woke up with a weird rash on my neck and chest, so I went to the infermary and got some Benedryl. It didnt work. But, whatever. We layed out by the pool for a couple hours and got some sun. After that, we headed back to the room and relaxed for a bit. We had our second formal night at dinner and ate lobster. Not much else exciting happened that day.
Saturday was our last full day at sea. We went for a couple's massage in the morning, which was also amazing. We went to do TV Tune Trivia, which we won. Its kind of sad that I knew the theme song to Gidget, My Two Dads and a few other shows that no one else watches. But, we came in first place! Hahaha. Then we went to watch Karaoke Superstar, which was a little lame. Some of the people were awesome, but others were not so good. Then we had our very last dinner in the dining room. The waiters sang a song and we handed out our tip envelopes and then went to the room to pack.
This morning we woke up early and had some breakfast. We then waited around like 2 schmucks for 2 hours trying to get off the ship. Silly us...we signed up for the express departure which ensured us that we would be off of the boat by 8:00 a.m. By 8:30, we were still in line, trying to get off of the boat. I wasnt happy about that at all. In fact, I believe I will be writing a letter to the CEO of Royal Caribbean.
Anyway...the cruise was a blast for the most part. We had a great time, despite a few little bumps in the road. However, I think after comparing RC to Carnival, I will be cruising with Carnival in the future. Maybe when I am 90 years old, I will go back to cruising with RC.
Oh yea...and I only gained 3 pounds the entire week. I thought for sure that I was gonna gain at least 5 or 6 pounds. Woo hoo!
